Out of this world mystic landscapes, rare opportunity to see and picture Aurora and glacier lagoon, geothermal activity and black sand beaches, gorgeous seabirds that nest in cliffs - that is what photo tours Iceland guided by many experienced photographers offer.
The most well-known pictures from Iceland are probably from the ice caves. The phenomenon of the ice caving is so rare and exceptional in nature that it feels like a must have experience for every traveller and particularly for photographers. It is like an instant skill level up. One of the most famous places is Vatnajökull National Park, the largest glacier in Europe. The caves there are really beautiful but you have to make sure that getting there is also safe, it is better to enter with a local guide.
The best thing about the ice caves is that they form unpredictably every year and even if you have already seen some of them, next year the locals can help you to discover another unique gem of this icy kingdom. Also take into account that the lifespan of the caves is quite short, only a few months in a year, and make sure that you reserve your place on a tour early.
Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, the northern part of the Westfjords, is so beautiful in another way. These massive cliffs are a great example of awe-inspiring landscapes and a home for an enormous colony of seabirds. That's just to name a few places to visit, but there is so much more to see and picture in Iceland. Be prepared to start early and stay out late following the Arctic light during the various Iceland photography workshops.
